In the library in Kumanovo “Tane Georgievski”, on June 24, there was a promotion of the scientific work “The ethnic and culture characteristics of the Roma in Macedonia” by PhD Trajko Petkovski, which includes information about the history, the past, the ethno genesis of Roma, their tradition and culture.
– The work represents my doctoral dissertation defended in 1997 at the Department of Ethnology on the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. The work is intended for a wider reading audience. There is interest to translate it in various European languages because there are not many works of its kind in Europe which are intended for the Roma from Macedonia, said the author Petrovski at the promotion, which was organized by the library in Kumanovo and the National Roma Centrum.
The director of the Institute of Folklore “Marko Cepenkov”, professor PhD Zorancho Malinov, stated, while promoting the book, that it was a capital work, monograph on the Roma culture, folklore, ethnology and history. He emphasized that folklorists, historians, sociologists and ethnologists can draw data from the work.
– Apart from the experts in the country, it is intended for the general readership and for all who want to learn more about Roma culture. It includes songs, stories, and anecdotes, published in Roma language with an appropriate translation. Anyone who manifests interest in this research will find precious data, added Malinov.
Trajko Petkovski is a scientific advisor in the Institute of Folklore. He has published five monographic works, he is an author or a coauthor of four textbooks in Roma language and dictionaries, and tens of articles related to the Roma people.
